Pick a camera, set the distance, and watch what it can actually resolve. The numbers use pixels-per-foot on target against the EN 62676-4 DORI levels: Detect, Observe, Recognize, Identify.

What the selected camera actually resolves at this range.

Most sites get this wrong. A camera does not "zoom in" on a face from across a parking lot. It has a fixed number of horizontal pixels, and those pixels get spread across whatever the lens sees. The farther away the subject, the fewer pixels land on them, measured as pixels per foot on target.

The security industry uses four levels, defined in EN 62676-4 and known as DORI. Detect means you can tell something is there. Observe and Recognize sit in the middle. Identify, the level you need to name a stranger from footage, takes roughly ten times the pixel density of Detect. A four megapixel camera at the wrong distance still fails Identify. That is the failure this tool makes visible.
